When i had an XP computer, anything I put on the calendar would come out and take focus until I clicked on "Dismiss this reminder" or "Postpone". Is there something equivalent for Windows 7 (Home Premium)?

I bought Outlook but there may be some freeware programs you can download.

I use Google Calendars, it sends me emails of upcoming events to my Gmail account. Notifications are customizable too.

Google Calendar for the win. It's completely free, fully featured, customizable, and sharable with others---you can even publish it on a web site if you like. And the biggest advantage of all is that you can access it from anywhere you have a connection to the internet.
